Manufacturing Digital investigates: The Truth Behind an Economic Recovery
Plus, how Airline Components International Ltd. significantly cuts down aircraft maintenance time, an exclusive Q&A with Chip PC Technologies and more in the November issue of Manufacturing Digital magazine

NORWICH, ENGLAND, November 05, 2009 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The facts have been checked and Manufacturing Digital magazine confirms: An economic recovery may be underway but it's going to be a bumpy ride. Such things as job losses and meager factory output across the globe are major contributing factors to manufacturing's slow climb out of a recession. Indeed, statistics from the Institute for Supply Chain Management, ISM Chicago's index and others indicate the recovery will be more sluggish than expected. In the latest issue, found on ManufacturingDigital.com (www.manufacturingdigital.com), we separate fact from fiction.

Oxfordshire-based Airline Components International Ltd. (ACI) is reinventing the time it takes to do maintenance for its aircraft customers. By using the rapid injection-molding services of Proto Labs , ACI has figured out how to cut down maintenance time on some of its aircraft from 12-16 weeks to 15 business days at the most. For ACI, shortening lead-times, solving complex design problems and responding quickly to its airline customers' needs is fundamental and amounts to standing out from its competition.

Will Matthews, ACI's Design Manager, tells Manufacturing Digital: "Using Protomold has allowed us to shorten the lead-time for a new part by several weeks. That means customers can order parts when the aircraft is grounded and have them fitted and back flying within the allotted maintenance window."
