HAYMARKET, VA, July 13, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Literary Lady, Dr. Patricia Daly-Lipe, Author, Artist and Speaker, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for demonstrating dedication, leadership and excellence in the literary arts.
Born in La Jolla, California, Patricia spent an equal amount of time living on the other coast in Washington, D.C., the home of several generations of her mother's family. In 1961, when she was 18 years old, her mother died of cancer and Patricia returned to Vassar College with a year at the Catholic University of Louvain, Belgium and earned a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy.
Later, as a single parent of three children, she and her young family raised, showed and raced thoroughbred horses that won at Santa Anita, Hollywood Park, and Del Mar. After her children were grown, Patricia completed a Master's Degree at California State University followed by a Ph.D. specializing in Creative Arts and Communication from Columbia Pacific University. For several years, Dr. Daly taught English and writing to university students and adults, wrote for several magazines as well as The Evening Star Newspaper in Washington, DC, and had a column with Beach and Bay Press/La Jolla Village News. At the same time, she painted portraits of children, dogs and horses and spent a summer doing plein-air painting in Provence, France. Her paintings have been exhibited and sold in galleries and private collections on both sides of the country.
Patricia now lives in Virginia with her husband Steele Lipe, MD, three dogs, three horses (she now rescues thoroughbreds), and two cats. She is the author of five books, two of which feature her paintings on their covers. She is the past President of the La Jolla Branch of the National League of American Pen Women, and, from 2006-2008, she was President of the NLAPW's DC Branch and Historian for the National Society Daughters of American Colonists in Washington, DC (whose headquarters are the childhood home of her mother).
In 2002, Patricia's book La Jolla, A Celebration of Its Past was the winner of the San Diego Book Awards Association. In 2004, she was recipient of the Woman of Achievement Award from the NLAPW, and a Best Books Award Finalist. In 2006, she was the first runner-up trophy winner of the JADA Book of the Year Award. Patricia was a speaker for the National Capital District 36 Toastmasters' Convention in 2007. In 2009, The Special Achievement Award was presented to Patricia Daly-Lipe for participation in the "Golden Nib" Contest in which she also was awarded second place in poetry for "A Poetic Meditation".
