SAN DIEGO, CA, August 03, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Giving Back Magazine will once again host the most prestigious polo tournament in the region at the San Diego Polo Club Sunday, September 18 from 12:00 noon to 6:00 PM. The tournament will feature exciting polo matches as well as activities such as antique biplanes, a live band, silent auction, raffle and a Mexican Charro rope trick intermission show.
The artistic prowess of our region will be displayed as the American National anthem will be sung by a member of the San Diego Opera, the Mexican National Anthem will be sung by a member of the Tijuana Opera and trumpeters and equestrian fanfare will be provided by musicians from the San Diego Symphony.
Polo, known as the "Sport of Kings", is an ancient game. The first recorded polo tournament was held in 600 BC. Emperors, Kings and Conquerors took part in the sport, which gave it its nickname. In the 1800's, two Englishmen stationed in India saw a polo match, and soon the British Army was playing. The sport spread to the Western world as Army officers returned home and formed clubs and leagues.
The recent royal visit of Britain's Prince William and The Duchess of Cambridge to California included a visit to and participation in a polo tournament at the Santa Barbara Polo & Racquet Club. This has generated an interest in polo across the region and many people have become interested in the sport and its social environment.
Food will be available from onsite caterers and drinks will be available from multiple bars. Children will be entertained by a jump house, face painting and Italian ice.
Tickets are $50 each, and children 12 and under (accompanied by an adult) are free. Parking is $5 for the day.

About San Diego Polo Club
California's first match was held on Coronado Island in 1906. Willis Allen and Harry Collins brought Polo to Rancho Santa Fe in 1982. Their vision of polo ponies galloping across acres of green grass had been finally realized. The club gates were opened in August 1986 and the public was welcomed to enjoy watching this exhilarating sport. Like the Collin's Family whose polo affair is deep-rooted, many of the members who started with the club 20 years ago, remain active. For more information visit www.sandiegopolo.com
